Communication tool for pharmacy consultations

A laminated consultation leporello for pharmacists, developed for everyday pharmacy practice when verbal communication is limited or no shared language is available — for example with tourists, refugees, people with aphasia or patients after a stroke. The six panels combine five common consultation areas — skin complaints, chronic conditions, pain, gastrointestinal problems and cold and flu symptoms — with general communication aids such as body representations, a pain scale and visual pathways to pharmacy or medical care.

Ein laminiertes Beratungsleporello für Apothekerinnen, entwickelt für die Kommunikation im Apothekenalltag, wenn verbale Verständigung eingeschränkt ist oder eine gemeinsame Sprache fehlt — etwa bei Touristinnen, Geflüchteten, Menschen mit Aphasie oder Patient*innen nach einem Schlaganfall. Die sechs Felder verbinden fünf häufige Beratungssituationen — Hautbeschwerden, chronische Erkrankungen, Schmerzen, Magen-Darm-Probleme und Erkältungssymptome — mit allgemeinen Kommunikationshilfen wie Körperdarstellungen, einer Schmerzskala und visuellen Wegen zur Apotheke oder zur ärztlichen Abklärung.

By pointing at and combining symbols, complaints and needs can be identified quickly. We developed a reduced visual language and, for more complex content, visual sequences of figures, arrows and situational cues that generate meaning through their interplay. The project was created in collaboration with Apotheken Umschau, published by Wort & Bild Verlag.

Durch Zeigen und Kombinieren von Symbolen können Beschwerden und Bedürfnisse schnell erfasst werden. Wir entwickelten eine reduzierte Bildsprache sowie, für komplexere Inhalte, visuelle Sequenzen aus Figuren, Pfeilen und Situationsdarstellungen, die Bedeutung im Zusammenspiel erzeugen. Das Projekt entstand in Kooperation mit der Apotheken Umschau im Wort & Bild Verlag.
